Disclosure: I am not earning any money through any links on this website.
Hi, I’m Amy. I’m not a certified art educator. I’m not a professional artist. I’ve acquired three kids and an art minor (not in that order), and I want to support and encourage my kids in their creative pursuits. Although making specific crafts can be a lot of fun, I’m looking to provide more open-ended creative experiences. I don’t always want to give my kids art history lessons—although some of that might sneak into what we’re doing. When I went online looking for help with what I did want to do, I couldn’t find it. So I decided to create it myself and then offer it here, in case anyone else was interested.
So what am I doing? I’m providing materials, some inspiration, and a place to make art. I’m purposely limiting the materials, so the kids don’t suffer from choice overload. I’m gently focusing the inspiration. I’m trying to tweak the experience so my three-year-old can join in with what her older brothers (ages seven and ten) are doing. And hopefully I’m sitting right along with my kids making art, too.
You can read in more detail on how I feel about kids and art in my Manifesto (the term being used slightly tongue in cheek), and you can find a list of my inspirations on the inspirations page (of course). I hope I inspire you. Let me know what you like, what you’d like to see, and if you’ve tried any activities presented here. You can contact me at kidsinthestudioATgmailDOTcom.
